Two local organizations are providing assistance in the aftermath of Hurricane Ida in Louisiana.

Faith Mission is setting up a Neighbors Helping Neighbors donation fund at local community banks to help provide resources for Louisiana families after the hurricane caused widespread damage and left hundreds of thousands of residents without electricity.

Meanwhile, as of Monday afternoon, Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative has sent five contractor construction crews and four contractor tree-trimming crews to Louisiana to help repair damage and restore power.

Faith Mission Executive Director Reverend Randy Wells, who was in Louisiana this weekend and has many family members and friends still in New Orleans, said officials are continuing search and rescue efforts and debris cleanup, and are limiting volunteers coming in and out until it is safe for all.  He said he will keep the local community informed on ways to help.

Bluebonnet Public Affairs Manager Will Holford said while Texas was fortunate to dodge damage from the hurricane, Bluebonnet is “happy to send resources needed to help our neighbors in Louisiana repair the state’s electric grid and restore power as quickly and safely as possible.”

  1. People in South Louisiana are resilient and determined but it is wonderful to see a much more unified and eager assistance effort from outside the state.. there’s a lesson to be learned from Katrina that hasn’t been ignored, ‘ there’s a lot of good people in this world and whenever possible, everyone including the government, just step aside and let those people help… Prayers for people in Houma ..and all others.. …..and Go Tigers!
