BRENHAM MUSEUM TO HOST WORKSHOP ON AFRICAN AMERICAN MEMORIES
The Brenham Heritage Museum is set to host a workshop this weekend on capturing oral histories.
In this workshop, the museum’s African American Content Committee will partner with the Texas Freedom Colonies project team, to learn, explore, and practice capturing oral histories.
Dr. Andrea Roberts, Freedom Colonies founder, and her team of students and researchers will guide participants on methods to engage and capture African American voices.
The workshop is set for this Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 pm in the Bus Depot Gallery.
The “Oral Traditions Workshop” is an informative session to explore and learn to conduct short, focused, personal interviews on a range of topics.
The program will begin by focusing on stories centered around Washington County’s Freedom Colonies including Spann’s Settlement, Camptown, Watrousville, Gay Hill, and many more.
Anyone with photos from Pickard High School, African American businesses on Commerce Street, or family memorabilia is invited to bring their photos for scanning or memorabilia to review and share.
