BURTON ISD UPDATES COVID-19 POLICY
Burton ISD is adapting its COVID-19 policy following updates to the public health guidance from the Texas Education Agency (TEA).

Superintendent Dr. Edna Kennedy announced in a letter today (Friday) that starting Tuesday, it will implement a stay-at-home period of 10 days if a student or staff member is actively sick or suspected of being sick with COVID-19, has received a positive test result or has been in close contact due to living in the same household as a positive family member.
The letter references new guidance from the TEA on Thursday indicating that school systems can choose to require household-based close contact students to stay at home during the stay-at-home period as COVID-19 case rates rise. According to the letter, this applies specifically to students who are close contacts because an individual who lives in the same household is COVID-19 positive.
Dr. Kennedy said the district will continue to promote healthy and safe learning environments by regularly cleaning and sanitizing, and encourages students and staff to wear masks.
As of this afternoon, Burton ISD’s COVID-19 dashboard reported 29 active cases in students and staff members. The highest total reported on the dashboard this week was 31 cases, up from 15 reported cases on Friday, August 27th.
