Bob Colwell, Public Information Officer for TxDOT’s Bryan District, confirmed that the bridges are scheduled to open to traffic on Tuesday.

The Washington County Chamber of Commerce will celebrate the opening with a ribbon cutting Friday at 9:30 a.m. at the Brazos River Bridge.

The ribbon cutting will be held on the Washington County side of the bridge, as close as possible to the bridge itself.  Participants can look for signage directing them to the ribbon cutting site.

Colwell said after traffic is moved to the new section of Highway 105, TxDOT and its contractor, James Construction Group, will begin removing the old bridges and roadway.

Once traffic is shifted, TxDOT will temporarily close FM 159 at the intersection of Highway 105 while a new tie-in is constructed.  A signed detour will be in place to direct the public to use Highway 105 to Highway 6 to FM 2154 to access FM 159.  The tie-in work is expected to last two months.

The $33.4 million project includes bridges over Coles Creek and the Brazos and Navasota Rivers.  The project has seen several weather delays since it began in 2014.
