WASHINGTON CO. FAIR KICKS OFF THIS WEEKEND

The Junior Livestock Auction for the 2020 Washington County Fair was held at Silver Wings Ballroom. This year's auction will return to the Washington County Expo.

Preparations are wrapping up for the start of the 153rd Washington County Fair this weekend.

Fair activities begin tomorrow (Friday) and continue through next Saturday, September 18th at the Washington County Expo.  The fair will be held as a full-fledged event, after 2020’s fair was limited to exhibitors.

Fair Manager Dean Fuchs says one change from last year that will remain in place this year is a spread-out schedule for livestock shows, which he says should offer added flexibility.

Livestock events kick off tomorrow with the rabbit sift and continue on Saturday with the rabbit show.  The schedule for tomorrow also includes the start of the barbecue cook-off and a pitch tournament, while Saturday will feature washer and bean bag tournaments, a craft beer round up, a trail ride at and around the Expo at 9:30 a.m. and the parade through downtown Brenham at 10:30 a.m.  The day will conclude with entertainment from the Anthony Moreno Band at 7 p.m.

Sunday will begin with a service from Cowboy Church of Brenham, followed by the bucket calf show, ag mechanics show and ranch rodeo.  Livestock judging will continue on Tuesday and run through Friday.

Another adjustment to this year’s fair will be that the Junior Livestock Auction will fall on Friday, September 17th instead of Thursday, taking place at 2 p.m. at Barn #1.  According to Fuchs, buyers gave positive feedback when last year’s auction was held on a Friday.

Other events to look forward to include country creations exhibits, crafts and vendor booths, a children’s petting zoo, a pet show, rodeo action and the Heart of America Carnival from Tuesday through Saturday.

The opening ceremonies of the fair will be held on Wednesday with the crowning of the fair queen and the winners of the Little and Junior Mister and Miss contests.  Running for fair queen this year are Trinity Hart, Emma Marth, Keely Mikolajchak and Jolie Standley.

This year’s entertainment lineup, in addition to the Anthony Moreno Band this Saturday, will feature Eliseo Robles on Tuesday; the Crossroads Band on Wednesday; Jon Stork and Kody West on Thursday; Carson Jeffery, Giovannie and the Hired Guns, and Jason Boland and the Stragglers on Friday; and Rick Trevino and Clay Walker on Saturday, September 18th.

Season passes are available from any of the fair queen candidates through Tuesday.

KWHI and KTEX-106 will broadcast live at various events throughout the fair, starting Saturday at 10:30 a.m. with the fair parade.

KWHI will also begin Washington County Fair reports on Saturday, offering updates three times a day on livestock judging results and other events at the fair.  The reports will air during the morning, noon and evening newscasts.
