BRENHAM ISD RECEIVES STATE’S HIGHEST FISCAL ACCOUNTABILITY RATING

Brenham ISD has earned the state’s highest rating for fiscal accountability in the 2020 fiscal year.

The district received an “A” rating for “Superior Achievement” under the School Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST).  The primary goal of School FIRST is to achieve quality performance in the management of school districts’ financial resources.

Business and Finance Director Kim Weatherby said the board of trustees and the district administration prioritize being “fiscally responsible with local, state and federal revenues.”

School FIRST ratings for the 2020 fiscal year are based on 20 financial indicators, such as administrative cost expenditures, the accuracy of a district’s financial information submitted to the Texas Education Agency (TEA), and any financial vulnerabilities or material weaknesses in internal controls as determined by an external auditor.

Brenham ISD received a perfect score on all 20 indicators and earned an overall rating of 100 on a scale of 1-100.

Brenham ISD Superintendent Dr. Tylor Chaplin said this rating reflects the work done by the school board and administrative staff to “ensure we are as efficient with taxpayer dollars as possible while providing for the needs of our students.”
