The head of Washington County’s emergency dispatch department is leaving for another state.

Tomorrow (Friday) is E-911 Director Kristi Stamnes’ last day with the county, after being in the position since January 1, 2017.  She has accepted a 911 position in Alabama.

When asked the reason for the decision, Stamnes told KWHI, “I have had a great opportunity for me and my family back home, one that I could not pass up.”

Stamnes said she has greatly enjoyed her time in Washington County and thanks the community for its support of her department.  She also thanks the officials from the city and the county who have helped her expand the department and make it what it is today.

A hiring committee has been created to search for a new director.  Washington County Commissioners will look to potentially update the position’s job description at their meeting Tuesday.

  1. Kristi has done a fantastic job!! Even being recognized nationally and being chosen to be in a Motorola commercial!! Smart leaders don’t let the great ones get away!!!!
This is NOT a good thing for Washington County!!!

  2. I’ll say it again… Smart leaders don’t let the great ones get away!!!!
This is NOT a good thing for Washington County!!!

  3. Kristi will be missed! She established a world class 911 operations center that our community can be so very proud to have! She worked tirelessly behind the scenes supporting our community’s first responders in the field. Kristi is a shining star, and I wish her the best!

  4. The real reason needs to be known for the safety of our citizens. I bet it is a power grab from another department and a Commisioner trying to put all public safety under one person, which will eventually include all fire departments as well.
Just saying if I was a betting man.

  5. Shame that we citizens of Brenham and Washington county will never know the real reason for this, yet another position in Brenham going leaderless. Way too much BS going on in this town! Apparently just a very toxic atmosphere! Time for a real house cleaning!

  6. This will be some hard shoes to fill, with her extensive knowledge and expertise. She has made our job at the Brenham Police Department easier, with her dispatchers working so closely with our officers, and with her professionalism. We will miss her but with her the very best in her future. We know Washington County will continue to pursue the same level of excellence with her replacement.

      1. When Harvey struck and we had thousands of National Guardsmen/Ladies coming through and some staying for 2 weeks, no one could have done a better job assuring they had 3 meals a days. Great job and good luck
