Buccaneers drop to 5-6-1 in Region XIV

The Blinn College women's soccer team was unable to make its halftime lead stand Wednesday night, surrendering two second-half goals to host Jacksonville College in a 2-1 Region XIV road loss.
"Definitely disappointed," Blinn head coach Michael McBride said. "We just didn't do enough to close the result out, and now the Angelina (College) game becomes a really big game for us."
Blinn (5-6-1, 4-6-1 Region XIV) will face the second-place Roadrunners at 2 p.m. Saturday at Rankin Field at Hohlt Park in Brenham.
The weekend match will provide the Buccaneers a chance to bounce back from Wednesday's tough result, in which McBride said the biggest contrast between Blinn and Jacksonville (5-6, 5-6) was "workrate."
"The difference between the two teams was paper thin," McBride said. "We just got out-worked in the second half. They controlled our effort and that's something we're pretty disappointed about."
Blinn's lone goal came early as freshman midfielder Lily Price scored on a free kick in the fifth minute of play.
It would stay 1-0 until the Jaguars tied the match on a free kick in the 67th minute. The hosts then took the lead for good with another goal in the 85th minute.
"They just worked their way back into the game," added McBride. "I feel like we gifted them the game today."
Buccaneer goalkeeper Angel Chase recorded four saves in goal. Blinn finished with four shots on goal.
