TWO FIRST-HALF GOALS PUSH BUCCANEER MEN’S SOCCER PAST NO. 12 ANGELINA
Blinn matches program-record win total
The Blinn College men’s victory scored two first-half goals and held on for a 2-1 Region XIV home victory over No. 12 Angelina College on Saturday at Rankin Field at Hohlt Park in Brenham.
The Buccaneers improved to 10-5-2 overall and 6-5-1 in the region and matched the program’s single-season win record, set during the 2019 season.
“We held on,” Blinn head coach Michael McBride said. “It was back-and-forth, very emotional and quite physical. It was a big win for us … the biggest win in a couple years.”
Blinn sophomore forward Keegan Woolley got his team on the board in the 11th minute when he scored off assists from sophomore Angel Romero and freshman Felix Mesquita. The lead grew to 2-0 in the 33rd minute when sophomore forward Stefan Fevrier Sildor netted an assist from Woolley and freshman Crispin Tshimanga.
Angelina broke up the shutout with a goal in the 36th minute, but Buccaneer freshman goalkeeper Cristo Gayoso made three saves to help preserve the victory.
Sildor’s goal was his ninth of the season and tied him with Farit Ha (2018-19) for Blinn’s all-time career goals record of 13.
The Buccaneers continue their season with a region match at Coastal Bend at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19.
