PLANE CRASHES NEAR AIRPORT IN WALLER CO.
Update @ 2:40 p.m.: No serious injuries are reported after a plane crash this (Tuesday) morning in Waller County.
The crash occurred around 10 a.m. near the intersection of Morton Road and FM 2855, close to the Houston Executive Airport between Brookshire and Katy.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said the plane, identified as a McDonnell Douglas MD-87, rolled through a fence and caught fire in a field while attempting to depart from the airport.
DPS Sergeant Stephen Woodard said 21 people, including three crew members, were aboard the plane and evacuated safely. Two people were transported to Memorial Hermann in Katy with non-life threatening injuries, but there were no fatalities.
Sgt. Woodard said he is very thankful for the outcome.
According to Sgt. Woodard, the plane was travelling to Boston. The Houston Astros are set to face off against the Red Sox tonight at Fenway Park for Game 4 of the American League Championship Series.
Assisting DPS at the scene were the Waller County Sheriff’s Office, Waller-Harris Emergency Service District 200, Waller County Fire Marshal’s Office and other agencies.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will lead the investigation, with assistance from the FAA.
