BRENHAM POLICE DEPT. AWARDED HOMELAND SECURITY GRANT

The Brenham Police Department has been approved for grant funding through the Office of the Governor’s Homeland Security Grant Division.

The department applied for $73,935 in grant funding, seeking to purchase two automated license plate reading trailers through Vigilant Solutions if awarded the funds.  The department competed against several other law enforcement agencies in the region while applying for the grant.

On October 14th, the department was awarded full funding through the Office of the Governor and was approved to receive funding by the Brenham City Council.  No matching funds will need to be supplied by the city for the grant.

The department says the trailers will be strategically placed once obtained, and will use them to review license plates as vehicles pass by on the roadway.  The trailers will notify officers if there is an alert on a license plate, such as an Amber Alert, Silver Alert and stolen vehicle alert, which can help officers locate missing children, elderly and property.
