U.S. Congressman Michael McCaul has officially announced he is running for re-election to Texas’ 10^th Congressional District.

McCaul, the former chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee and the top Republican on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, was first elected to the district in 2005. He won re-election to a ninth term in November 2020, defeating Democrat Mike Siegel and Libertarian Roy Eriksen with 52.5 percent of the vote.

McCaul said he is seeking re-election because he is extremely displeased with the Biden Administration’s handling of affairs.

Last week, Governor Greg Abbott approved new congressional maps, which would first be used in next year’s elections barring legal intervention.

CD-10’s new map keeps Washington County as the heart of the district, which also includes all of Austin, Colorado, Fayette, Lee and Waller counties, along with portions of Bastrop, Travis and Williamson counties. The new district no longer extends into Harris County, but does pick up Brazos, Burleson, Grimes and Madison counties.

McCaul said he is looking forward to representing a new region of voters.

McCaul said his top priorities are a strong and healthy economy, jobs for the American people, securing the border and protecting the country from foreign adversaries.
