The Chappell Hill Volunteer Fire Department has a new generator.

Assistant Fire Chief Mathew Kolajajak said the fire department received a $25,000 grant through the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) and Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative.

With matching funds through fundraising and community donations, the department was able to purchase and install the generator.

Fayetteville Propane also donated a 1,000 gallon propane tank, which will allow the generator to run for extended periods of time.

Kolajajak said the generator will be used as a back-up or standby generator, and can provide power to the entire fire complex during times of need.  He said the generator will also allow the department to provide shelter services during an emergency event such as a hurricane or extended freezing weather.
