BRENHAM ISD GIFTED AND TALENTED PROGRAM TAKING NOMINATIONS STARTING MONDAY
Brenham ISD will open the nomination process Monday for the Gifted and Talented (GT) education program.
Each school year, Brenham ISD has a screening process for identifying gifted and talented students. Parents, teachers and administrators may nominate students to be screened for identification starting Monday and ending Monday, January 10, 2022 at 10 a.m.
The district screens students for the GT program using a multi-criteria approach to selection with three phases of placement. GT identification is based upon data collected from achievement tests, ability tests, parent and teacher observation surveys, and student products from Kingore Planned Experiences.
Families must complete the parent checklist and request for screening form found at www.brenhamisd.net. Forms can be submitted online or in person at the Brenham ISD Administration Office at 711 East Mansfield Street.
Any forms received after the January 10th deadline will be retained until the following spring in 2023. The fall screening window is only for students who have newly enrolled to Brenham ISD.
Screening and testing will occur on campuses after January 10th and continues through February. A GT placement committee will meet to consider placement and send out notifications no later than March 11th, before Spring Break. If accepted, students will begin their first day in the program in August at the beginning of the next school year.
Students who participated in the screening process in the past but did not qualify must wait at least one year before requesting reassessment.
On Thursday, January 6th, Brenham ISD will host an Advanced Academics Expo from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Brenham Middle School. The event is open to everyone in and out of the school district, and showcases the learning opportunities in the GT and Advanced programs.
