Hempstead ISD hosted its first-ever Tamalada Navideña on Saturday.

Families, community members and Hempstead ISD staff came together to make tamales, a Christmas tradition for many local Hispanic families.  Parents became the teachers for the event, directing staff and other parents interested in learning the process for the beloved holiday dish.

Over 40 community members and staff spent the morning together, assembling and cooking both green chicken tamales and red pork tamales.

The event was organized by the district’s Director of Bilingual/ESL and Family Outreach, Maggy Paramore, as well as Food Services General Manager Tim Wilson.

Hempstead ISD Superintendent Dr. Angela Gutsch hopes to make the Tamalada Navideña an annual holiday tradition in Hempstead.
