Washington County Sheriff Otto Hanak reports that November 12, Deputy Albert Vasquez was dispatched to a business in the 2800 Block of Highway 290 West in reference to a theft.  Deputy Vasquez received a complaint from employees of a company performing work at that location stating their tools had been stolen during the day.  Some of the tools reported as stolen consisted of a Hilti Impact Wrench, Hilti Hammer Drill, and a Milwaukee Corded band saw.

Criminal Investigation Sergeant Mitch Dreyer was able to obtain serial numbers for some of the stolen items and upon researching the serial numbers, he was able to confirm that some of the stolen property had been pawned in Navasota.

Pawn shop receipts indicated the items were pawned by 56 year old Washington resident Tom Nelson Smith.  Additional evidence supported the issuance of an arrest warrant for Smith charging him with Theft of Property with a previous Theft conviction.  Smith was located at his residence on Tuesday, arrested and placed into the Washington County jail under a $25,000 bond.
