FAYETTE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE FINDS SEVERAL STOLEN VEHICLES

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office had to deal with several stolen vehicles Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on Tuesday evening Deputy Dustin Kieschnick was flagged down by a motorist in the Ellinger area. The motorist advised Deputy Kieschnick that his phone had notified him of an “Airtag” tracking device on his vehicle. Deputy Kieschnick assisted the motorist in locating the tracking device in the vehicle and in the process observed several indicators that the vehicle’s VIN information and plates had been altered. Deputy Kieschnick learned that the motorist had just purchased the vehicle in a private transaction. The motorist provided documentation and copies of the ID’s of the individuals who sold the vehicle and it appeared the ID cards were also altered. After further investigation Deputy Kieschnick was able to determine the correct information for the vehicle and found that it had been stolen out of Harris County.  The vehicle was secured and the motorist was released and picked up by a family member.

Then in the early morning hours of Wednesday, Deputy Seth Nagel conducted a traffic stop on Highway 71 near Ellinger.  While speaking with the driver and inspecting the vehicle Deputy Nagel observed that the vehicle’s VIN number and plates did not match.  After further investigation it was found that the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Jersey Village on December 3rd. Arrested was Misael Pena, 24 of Houston, for the offense of Unauthorized use of a Motor Vehicle.
