BRENHAM ISD ADDRESSES SCHOOL VIOLENCE THREATS

Brenham ISD is one of several school districts in the area that took precautions today (Friday) in light of social media threats of violence at schools.

Superintendent Dr. Tylor Chaplin said there is a national challenge on the app TikTok that encourages students to make threats of shootings, bomb threats or other violent actions.

Dr. Chaplin said Brenham ISD made principals aware of the threat and coordinated with the Brenham Police Department to have an increased presence around schools.

Dr. Chaplin said the school district had no reason to believe there would be local credibility to the threat, but wanted to take all action necessary for the safety of students.

Brenham ISD is not the only school district that took precautionary steps today.  Caldwell ISD sent out word of the threat to families, while Waller ISD disallowed students in grades 6-12 to carry a backpack to school.
