The Brenham Planning and Zoning Commission will hear a specific use permit request Monday for a new car wash.

Todd and Tyson Felder are seeking to remove the existing commercial building and accessory structure at 1413 West Main Street, the site of the former auto detailing business, Executive Hand Car Wash, and build a 24/7 automated car wash.

City staff members say the area has a mixture of residential and neighborhood commercial uses, with single-family homes, a beauty salon, a land surveyor, repair shops and restaurants all near the 0.61-acre lot.

Staff recommends approval of the specific use permit request, on several conditions.  Staff say the car wash must be built with the dryers or blowers within the car wash bay structure, and must have noise-lessening cones attached.

The car wash must also place the automated entrance machine or teller underneath a canopy, use hooded and downcast lighting, and submit a landscaping and screening plan that conforms to the city’s landscaping and bufferyard requirements.

The commission will meet Monday at 5:15 p.m. at Brenham City Hall.

  1. i know the owners of this car wash and they are good people. they donate alot of stuff to fundraisers around the community. here recently they donated a whole basket of items to one of the elementary schools fundraisers. people need to quit bashing business owners that are trying to give this town more options. if the neighbors are worried about the carwash why didn’t they go to the city council meetings to complain. people in this town need to get a life and quit crying about stuff that doesn’t concern them.

  2. Grandpa lived next to the carwash at gas station at Market and Stone. He always sat outside and enjoyed his bird feeders until the auto wash wash was built. My experience is the solitude of the surrounding homes is ruined by the carwash. Grandpa loved his house for 70 years except for the last 15 years when he had more time to relax. This was not fair to my grandpa. Now these homes will have the same tragic experience.

  3. Do people not own a vacuum or know that it rains occasionally? This isn’t a desert.. There’s no need for a car wash, and there’s so many.

  4. A new car wash being built on N. Park St. right across from my neighborhood. Now we have to listen to all the loud music and window rattling bass. Hope the owners take care of this issue but doubt they will.

  5. I would love a great car wash on that side of town ! Easy exit, enter car wash & easy entrance to get back on the highway to head north !! Look forward to it !!!

  6. How many car washes is enough for Brenham?
I believe someone is already building a new car wash in front of the Adult/Teen challenge, next to the High School.

Is there a need for another?

    I think there is already 5 ???

More power to the folks who want to do that business, but it is necessary and needed?

It would almost be like opening a new Clothing Boutique, Mexican Food Restaurant, or Dounut Store in town. The idea is nice, but when is enough, enough?

What about an awesome Laundry Mat, or local Taxi Service?

    Food for thought.

    1. How many “good” car washes are there in Brenham? That’s the reason for new and upcoming car washes. Not one of the existing car washes actually clean your car or truck. Looking forward to the new IQ Carwash on Park Street that will also clean dually trucks.

      1. Tina, TNT car wash on Market St. will accommodate a dually and has always done an outstanding job. on our vehicles.

    2. I understand the concerns of people that are worried about noise pollution, so I really do think that the best place for these businesses is along highway frontage. But can you have too many of them and is that for the government to decide? Nope. Let the free market do its job. Competition between business owners will drive quality, options, and convenience.

      1. If I had more time and money I might. They are both a needed business that would do well in Brenham, in my opinion.
Another car wash just seems superfluous.
If someone wants to put a car wash on every corner, attached to a Mexican Food Restaurant and a Dounut Store in this town, I wish them All the best. It just seems a bit much is all.

  7. Why does the city require landscaping but doesn’t enforce that once the landscaping is done that it continues to be maintained year round? There are so many places that do not take care of the grass/shrubs and trees. Regular mowing is an issue at many businesses.
