WASHINGTON COUNTY JAIL INMATE CAUSES INJURY

A Detention Officer at the Washington County Jail was injured by an inmate last week.
According to Washington County Sheriff Otto Hanak, on Friday, an inmate assaulted a Washington County Detention Officer sending that them to Baylor Scott and White with head injuries requiring stitches. The officer was treated and later released. The inmate, 41 year old Charles Earl Martin, was in the Washington County jail after being transferred there by court order, from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice on December 1. Martin stood trial last week on a 2nd degree felony charge of Assault Causing Bodily Injury with a Previous Conviction. Martin is currently serving a 13 year prison sentence for the same type offenses. In District Court last week, Martin was found guilty and sentenced to 20 years in prison and is to be transferred back to prison in the near future. Martin has now been charged with Assault of a Public Servant, a 3rd degree felony. Martin has a long history of criminal activity in Washington County along with being a parole violator in 2017.

Inmate and convicted felon Charles Martin was transported to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice institutional division this morning (Tuesday) to continue his current 13 year sentence and will begin his newest 20 year after he discharges that sentence. He will also be charged with assault on a correctional officer by the Washington County Sheriffs Office.
