FAYETTE CO. FIREFIGHTERS BATTLE WEEKEND HOUSE FIRE IN LIGHTNING STORM

Several fire departments battled a house fire during a lightning storm Saturday morning in northern Fayette County.

According to Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek, dispatchers received a 911 call around 10 a.m. reporting a structure fire in the 6400 block of Waldeck Cemetery Road, off FM 1291.

The Round Top – Warrenton Fire Department and a Fayette County Sheriff’s deputy responded to the scene to find heavy fire and smoke coming from the home, which was under construction.

Mutual aid was requested from the Carmine, Ledbetter, Fayetteville and La Grange Fire Departments for water and manpower.  Fayette County EMS also responded.

A total of 28 firefighters battled the blaze with 12 apparatuses.  The State Fire Marshal’s Office was also contacted and met with fire and sheriff’s officials.

The cause of the fire was ruled undetermined.
