APPLICATIONS OPEN FOR BRENHAM CITIZENS POLICE ACADEMY

Applications are now available for the Brenham Police Department’s annual Citizens Police Academy.

The educational program seeks to build a partnership between the department and the community while educating the public about the inner workings of law enforcement.

Class participants gain insight into the policies and procedures of the department through tours, lectures, demonstrations and “hands-on” experiences.  They can also intermingle with police officers and ride with them during a normal patrol shift.

Officers from the department provide the instruction, with topics covering patrol procedures, criminal investigations, SWAT and hostage negotiation, building searches, traffic stops, and narcotics and DWI enforcement.

The academy consists of 12 classes that take place at the police department on Thursdays from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.  Classes begin on February 10th and end on or about May 5th with a graduation ceremony.

The program is free of charge to all Washington County residents who are 18 years old or older.

Applications can be obtained at the Brenham Police Department or online at www.cityofbrenham.org.  Anyone with questions can contact Community Resource Officer Sierra Randle at 979-337-7597 or Sergeant Todd Ashorn at 979-337-7382.
