APPEALS COURT UPHOLDS MASK INJUCTION
A state appeals court upheld a lower-court injunction that allowed Harris County to impose mask requirements earlier this week.
The ruling allows the mandate despite Governor Greg Abbott's executive order banning such mandates.
The Austin-based 3rd Court of Appeals rejected arguments by Abbott and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who claimed state law lets the governor overturn local health mandates imposed to mitigate the spread of a dangerous virus.
The ruling will be appealed to the all-Republican Texas Supreme Court, which will have the final say over this and similar rulings by other intermediate appellate courts that also upheld mask mandates in Texas, including Dallas County, Bexar County, San Antonio and Laredo.
