A dozen Lee County firefighters fought an oil well fire early Tuesday morning.

Firefighters responded around 5:30 a.m. to the 1900 block of County Road 104 west of Giddings, after the Lee County Sheriff’s Office received multiple reports of an explosion at the well.

Six firefighters each from the Giddings and Lincoln Volunteer Fire Departments were dispatched, along with an engine and tanker from the Giddings department.

After shutting off the well, firefighters extinguished the flames in around 3 minutes using a firefighting foam and roughly 7,500 gallons of water.

The fire looked to be contained to the heater-treater on site.
