DPS URGES SAFETY ON ROADS DURING WINTER STORM

DPS is cautioning drivers to be extra mindful on the roads with freezing weather and precipitation creating less than ideal conditions.
DPS Sergeant Justin Ruiz said rain has already led to standing water on the road in some areas, and as temperatures continue to drop, that water could turn into ice.
Sgt. Ruiz said drivers should take note of what is happening around them on the road and be sure to slow down.
Drivers can also take several steps to make sure their vehicles are prepared for the cold before taking them out.
Sgt. Ruiz also recommends that drivers put blankets inside their vehicles in case they do get stranded.
TxDOT and other crews began treating roads on Wednesday to help them avoid icing over.
