The three Republican candidates in the March primary took to the podium to take questions from the audience about representation on the Blinn Board of Trustees, voting record, and what they feel is the biggest challenge to this district.

Incumbent Kyle Kacal said managing growth coming into the region and continuing work on bail reform are some of his greatest priorities.

Several questions were directed at Kacal, including his vote during the 84th Legislature in favor of House Bill 1903, which would have required Blinn College to allocate funds to each campus based on student contact hours.  Challenger Ben Bius said if the bill passed, it would have taken representation at Blinn away from Washington County.

The subject of Kacal’s voting record was also discussed, with challengers stating he has not matched the votes of other conservative legislators.  Challenger Joshua Hamm criticized Kacal’s statement that this past year saw the “most conservative session in the Texas Legislature.”

Early voting gets underway Monday, February 14th.  Election Day is March 1st.  The winner of the March primary will be unopposed in November.
