BURTON PANTHERS/LADY PANTHERS SHINE AT THE “SWAMP STRENGTH” POWERLIFTING MEET

The Burton Panther Powerlifting Team had a tremendous showing at the "Swamp Strength" Invitational at Rice Consolidated High School in Altair.

The Panthers entered eight lifters and left with five medals.

Senior Eli Saunders led the way with a first place finish in the 114 boys weight class. His personal record of 820 lbs. combined lift puts him atop Region 4 Division 4 in his weight class.

Senior Eric Flores finished in third place for the 242 weight class. His 1,240 lbs. combined lift has him currently fourth in the Region 4 Division 4 rankings.

Sophomore Patrick Tavery finished fourth in the 275 weight class. He is currently ranked 20th in the region.

The Panthers lift again at Rice on Wednesday, February 26th, as they seek to cement their spot in the Regional Championship on March 5th.

The Burton Lady Panthers contributed two medals to the count. Freshman Vivian Layman set a new personal best of 650 lbs. to finish third in her weight class. Her new total has tied for ninth in Region 2 Division 3.

Freshman Avery Applewhite also reached new heights and finished third in the 132 weight class.

The Lady Panthers will venture back into the "Swamp" for a last chance qualifier next Saturday, February 19, as they seek a trip to the Regional Championship on March 5th.
