With early voting for the March primary having officially begun, KWHI is visiting with each of the candidates in the contested races on the Washington County ballot.

First up is State House District 12 candidate Ben Bius, who is the founder and principal broker of B&B Properties out of Huntsville.  Bius is running as a Republican against two opponents, incumbent Kyle Kacal and challenger Joshua Hamm.  The winner between the three will not have a Democratic opponent in November.

Bius said as a career businessman, he wants to focus on growing economic opportunities while fighting unfunded mandates to allow local officials to retain control.

Bius prioritizes securing the border and providing law enforcement and prosecutors the tools they need to protect their communities.  He also wants to improve the public education delivery system to reduce taxes and give students more time with their teachers.

To Bius, it is important that the next state representative respect Blinn College and its contributions to education.  He believes the best economic development is home-grown, and wishes to utilize the full potential of Blinn, Sam Houston State University and Texas A&M University.

Bius also said it is crucial for the next elected representative to remember where their power comes from.

Early voting continues through next Friday, February 25th.  Election Day is Tuesday, March 1st.
