PRECINCT 3 J.P. CANDIDATE PROFILE: DUANE ‘DANE’ HOUSTON

(Mark Whitehead)

With less than a week of early voting remaining for the March primary election, KWHI is talking with each of the candidates in the three contested races in Washington County.

Our focus now shifts to the Justice of the Peace for Precinct 3, and we lead off with Duane “Dane” Houston, a former plumber and lieutenant with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.  Houston is running against Daniel McCarthy on the Republican ballot for the position vacated after the retirement of Ken Tofel in June.  The winner will not be opposed in November’s general election.

After serving 13 years with the sheriff’s office before retiring in 2017, Houston feels his relationship with law enforcement and other public officials will allow him to succeed in this role.

Accessibility to the justice of the peace office is something Houston hopes to improve if he is elected.  He plans to maintain office hours that run parallel to hours at the courthouse, and also intends to be open during the lunch hour.

Houston also believes strongly in fair and equal treatment.

Houston said his training and experience have prepared him well for what he hopes will be another chance to give back to the community.

Friday is the last day of early voting.  Election Day is Tuesday, March 1st.
