Heading into the final days of early voting for the March primary, KWHI continues to visit with the candidates from each of Washington County’s three contested races.

We continue with Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace candidate Daniel McCarthy, a nine-year veteran of the United States Marine Corps, former legal aide in the justice of the peace and county attorney’s offices, and current chief inspector and project manager for Northern Natural Gas.  McCarthy and Duane “Dane” Houston are running as Republicans to fill the seat left by Ken Tofel after his retirement in June.  The winner will not have an opponent for the general election in November.

McCarthy said, if he is elected, he will focus on upholding the Constitution and the values of Washington County.

Open lines of communication between public officials and the community are of high importance to McCarthy.  He also wants to look into different technology to use for streamlining office operations and making them more efficient.

To McCarthy, it is vital that the next justice of the peace be accessible and understand the role’s impact on local youth.

McCarthy said public service is something he has been called to from a young age, and believes in this position that he can make a difference in the lives of future generations.

Friday marks the conclusion of early voting.  Election Day is Tuesday, March 1st.
