Ten members of the Blinn College Band, including three of which who are from Brenham, have earned All-State honors.

Brenham students recognized include Ohany Acosta for baritone saxophone, Rachel Draehn for horn, and Sarah Fairman for clarinet.

Other Blinn students that received All-State included Denzel Blackmon of Houston for alto saxophone, Kali Christ of Burnet for clarinet, Ivan Duran of Houston for alto saxophone, Agatha Lee of Austin for clarinet, Hector Martinez of Houston for trumpet, Yvonne Perez of Rosenberg for clarinet, and Elizabeth Rosales of Cypress for trumpet.

In addition to winning All-State honors, the students were invited to perform at the annual convention of the Texas Community College Band Director’s Association that was held recently in San Antonio.

While at the convention, students had the chance to work with Baylor University Director of Bands, Dr. Eric Wilson, and Dr. Deb Scott, who directs the top jazz ensemble known as the “Swingin’ Axes” at Stephen F. Austin University.

Students had to prepare full concert programs over the course of the three days and  finish with a performance to close out the convention.
