CUBETTE SOFTBALL DEFEATS COLLEGE STATION 8-0
After the rains played havoc with the schedule, the Brenham Cubettes came out and took care of business last (Wednesday) night. The Cubettes defeated the College Station Lady Cougars 8-0 at Alumni Field.
The game was scoreless going into the bottom of the fourth inning when Brenham struck first. Annie Beckendorf led off the inning with a walk, and Kaylyn Rodriguez got hit by a pitch. Nevaeh Holmes laid down a sacrifice bunt to move the runners over. The Cubettes then executed a suicide squeeze play. Sarah Mabie laid down the bunt, Beckendorf came home to score, and Mabie beat out the throw to first. Avery Maurer followed with a two run double that scored Rodriguez and Mabie to make it 3-0 Cubettes.
In the fifth inning, Brenham busted the game wide open with five runs. Kaylyn Rodriguez singled, and Beckendorf and Holmes walked to load the bases. Mabie drew a bases loaded walk that scored Rodriguez. Maurer followed with a two run single that scored Beckendorf and Holmes. Halle Scheel then laced a two run double down the right field line that scored Mabie and Maurer to make it 8-0 Cubettes.
Coming off Saturday's no-hitter, Della Jasinski was once again dominant in the circle. After giving up a lead off walk, she then proceeded to retire 18 of the last 19 batters that she faced. She only allow two hits, one walk, and struck out nine over seven shutout innings pitched.
The Cubettes are scheduled to host Jordan Friday night at Alumni Field at 6:30pm (6:05pm pregame on KWHI).
