A former candidate for the Republican nomination for Texas House District 12 has endorsed one of his opponents for the May 24 run-off.

Joshua Hamm, who was the third place finisher in the March 1 Primary, has thrown his support behind challenger Ben Bius.

No one received 50% of the vote in the primary, which forced the need for a run-off election. Incumbent Kyle Kacal got 47% of the vote, Bius received 42%, and Hamm received 11%.

Hamm said that he got into the race to ensure that a conservative like Bius would get the opportunity to represent the district, and that after studying Kacal’s record, he didn’t feel that he voted according to Republican values.

Bius released a statement that he was honored to receive Hamm’s endorsement. He that he thought Hamm ran an honorable race and is a strong conservative voice.

The new Texas House District 12 is made up of Washington, Grimes, Brazos, Robertson, Madison, and Walker counties.

Early voting will be held May 16-20. The run-off election is May 24.
