LONGTIME COMMUNITY SUPPORTER MARGARET BLIZZARD DIES

Margaret Blizzard

The namesake of Brenham’s senior center has died.

Margaret Blizzard died Tuesday at the age of 89.  She and her husband Frank, who were married for 65 years until his death in 2018, were heavily involved in the Washington County community, helping to support and develop organizations like the Washington County Healthy Living Association and the Boys and Girls Club of Washington County.

The Margaret E. Blizzard Senior Activity Center opened in February 2016 and provides senior citizens with meals, transportation, and educational and recreational activities.

Margaret and Frank met while attending school in Upland, Pennsylvania.  They married in 1953 after Frank returned from Japan, following two years of service in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  After moving to Plano in 1971, Frank retired in 1987 and the two moved to Washington County.

Margaret maintained a very active lifestyle, walking eight miles a day and regularly attending exercise classes.

Visitation with the family will be held Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel.  After a private burial, a memorial mass will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  A reception will follow the mass at the senior center.
