CUBS LOSE A HEARTBREAKER TO MAGNOLIA WEST 2-1

Ethan Jezierski

The Brenham Cub Baseball Team lost a 2-1 heartbreaker on the road to Magnolia West on Wednesday night.

The lone run for the Cubs came in the second inning. Jacob Mabie hit a one out double.  His courtesy runner, Colin Schaper, later scored on an RBI groundout by Devin Murithi.

Ethan Jezierski pitched six innings for Brenham, and pulled quite the Houdini act by getting out of bases loaded jams in three of those innings. He gave up eight hits, one run, one walk, and struck out six.

Offensively, the Cubs just couldn't get anything going against Mustang starting pitcher James Ellwanger. Ellwanger, who has already committed to Dallas Baptist University as a junior, pitched seven strong innings. He only allowed four hits, one run, two walks, and struck out 14 Brenham batters, including the last eight Cubs that he faced.

The game was tied 1-1 going into the bottom of the 7th inning. Mason Lampe came on to relieve Jezierski. Brandon Seidemeyer starting the frame off with a double. Then, Noah Huff followed with a walkoff RBI double to win the game for the Mustangs.

The series shifts back to Fireman's Park in Brenham for a Friday night game.  First pitch is at 7pm.
