NEW PROGRAM PESENTED TO COMMISSIONERS COURT TUESDAY

Washington County EMS Director Kevin Deramus presented a new program for the county at this (Tuesday) morning’s Commissioners Court meeting. The project will be an automated system to check on senior citizens that don’t have family in the area. The system will be donated to the county by June Dossatt. She has donated to the EMS each year since 2007. The new system will make an automated call at a specified time requiring a response. If after several calls, no response is received, Dispatch is notified and an EMS unit is sent to check on the person. The system can also be configured for latch-key kids or as a prescription medication reminder. Commissioners had praise for Ms. Dossatt, saying she did not only bring a problem to light, she also provided a solution to it and provided the funds to pay for it.
The County Commissioners also presented a Proclamation to Lindsey LeBlanc for Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month. LeBlanc is the Executive Director of the Sexual Assault Resource Center in Bryan.
In other action, commissioners:
- Heard the Washington County Expo quarterly report
- Approved a Subdivision Variance Request for a land division on Young Lane at Sandtown Road to 3 tracts.
- Approved the 60 day extension of 51 excess vacation hours for Elections Administrator Carol Jackson.
- Approved the Joint Election Agreement between Washington County and the Brenham Independent School District for the May 7th election.
- Approved the $10.00 per hour rate for election workers for the May 7th election to match the rate paid by the Brenham Independent School District.
- Approved the purchase of a five year subscription service for the Webex Calling (telephone system). The first three years will be paid with the American Rescue Plan funds and the remaining 2 years paid annually through budgeted funds.
- Approved the bond for precinct 3 Justice of the Peace Robert Duane Houston.
