OVER 600 VOTE ON FINAL DAY OF EARLY VOTING; ELECTION DAY SATURDAY
Early voting has concluded for the constitutional amendment election and Brenham ISD bond election.
Washington County Elections Administrator Carol Jackson said through seven days of early voting, a total of 3,052 people cast ballots for the amendment election, while 2,942 voted in the school bond election.
The county’s total of registered voters who are eligible to vote in the amendment election is 24,184, and the amendment election had a 12.7 percent voter turnout. Meanwhile, 21,392 registered voters were eligible to vote in the bond election, and there was a voter turnout of 13.8 percent.
The final day of early voting saw the highest amount of voters. The amendment election drew 630 voters on Tuesday, while 611 people voted in the bond election.
Anyone who has not yet voted and still plans to do so must now go to their designated polling location on Election Day this Saturday. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at four locations, including the Washington County Event Center for Precinct 1 voters, the Brenham VFW Hall for Precinct 2, the Nancy Carol Roberts Memorial Library for Precinct 3 and the Blinn College Student Center for Precinct 4.
While I am positive that the Powers That Be will ensure there is plenty of parking and traffic control for the voters who must go to the library this Saturday, I question why another site was not chosen. With only one entrance and exit to the library parking, and with the additional Maifest visitors who will park in the library’s lot, it is likely to be quite discouraging. If this was a political election, and voting was to take place at NRG in the middle of the HLSR, people would be screaming that they were disenfranchised due to difficulty in getting to the polls. I hope that this does not prevent voters from turning out on Saturday.
