WASHINGTON COUNTY COMMISSIONERS TO LOOK AT EMS STATION FOR LAKE SOMERVILLE

Lake Somerville could be the next location to have a Washington County EMS Paramedic Rescue Station.
During their next meeting on Tuesday, the Washington County Commissioners Court will be discussing a lease agreement between the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Washington County.
The lease is a five-year agreement for 1.5 acres of land located near Marina Road and LBJ Drive for the construction, operate, and maintain a Paramedic Rescue Station at Lake Somerville.
The purpose of the Rescue Station is to provide swift emergency medical and rescue needs to visitors at the park and the lake.
In addition to the station, they will also have a helicopter landing pad on the property as well.
Other items on the agenda include:
A public hearing on the proposed creating of Washington County Reinvestment Zone Number 2 which was requested by Double R Brand Foods for a commercial tax phase-in incentive.
The placement of Farm House Lane, a 4/10’s of a mile road, in the Farm Houses of Pleasant Hill Subdivision, Section 2 into the one-year maintenance period thus reducing the original bond amount by 50%
The Washington County Commissioners meet Tuesday at 9am at the Washington County Courthouse.
I can’t believe this…. I’m sure it’s already a done deal by Kevin yet again and we are all just now hearing about this. Burleson Co. runs swift water rescues, has a rescue team and are highly trained, but here we go again with Kevin getting what he wants.
Private service should be used for this out of Bryan/College station as that is where the people will end up, not at Scott and White, Brenham. Would need to be staffed, more payroll cost. Please commissioners do not allow this to happen. As stated, the lake is in three counties. Why should Washington County foot the bill so the director can have another feather in his hat.
I don’t know how familiar you are with EMS but I wouldn’t want any private service EMS agency providing me emergency care. 911 EMS systems provide far better care, receive far more training, have better equipment, and typically have more aggressive protocols allowing critical life saving interventions to be performed. Private service agencies are good for transporting patients from hospital to hospital, which I think Washington County EMS should NOT be doing, but everyday I see them up and down the highway running transfer calls.
The commissioners need to say no on this!!
I think the county needs to put a cap on its EMS expenditures now. Fix the roads. Make sure the sheriff has all the resources he needs and Kevin needs to find a bigger county with a budget that fits his needs.
Amen to fix the roads and Kevin finding a different county.
Did a small amount of research, and Lake Somerville covers three counties— Burleson, Lee and Washington. Why would the Co. Commissioners even entertain that the tax payers of Washington would take on this extra burden. Are the other counties going to pay their part? From the article, it doesn’t sound like it. I agree that Mr. Demarus needs to find a different county and spend their money. I have never understood how our commissioners said YES to Mr Demarus for a change in helicopter service costing $ 177,000.00 a month. His spending is out of control. “NO” is still a part of the english vocabulary.
You are right
I just want to Thank Kirk and the other commissioners. Precinct 3 population is growing and we need the EMS and also a substation for the SHERIFF office. Thank You!
I make a motion that, Kevin and all the commissioners be told no to this. Rent a camp site for the weekends. Washington county tax payers are broke.
The county budget is stretched thin and our taxes keep going up. Real sorry, but I think this plan is irrational. We don’t even have enough money to maintain our roads properly (as was stated in last weeks article ). Now you want us to build, maintain and operate a station in Somerville for visitors to the lake. Commissioners need to get their priorities straight !
They love spending. Isn’t it funny how all the ones with the “right last names” have nice roads in front of their houses. Boy they love spending taxpayers money. And NO we don’t need another EMS station in Somerville. Learn to say NO and we need to vote them ALL OUT.
