CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT PROPOSITIONS APPROVED BY LARGE MARGIN
Voters in Texas strongly supported two constitutional amendments intended to provide property tax relief.
According to the unofficial results on the Secretary of State’s website, Proposition 1, which reduces the amount that homeowners who are 65 and older or disabled pay in school property taxes, passed with 86.9 percent of the vote.
Proposition 2, which increases the homestead exemption from $25,000 to $40,000 for school property taxes, had 84.8 percent of voters in favor.
In Washington County, voters overwhelmingly approved both measures. Proposition 1 passed with 3,636 votes in favor to 452 against, while Proposition 2 tallied 3,673 supporters and 451 in opposition.
The county’s total of registered voters who were eligible to participate in the amendment election was 24,184. The total turnout for the election was 17.48 percent.
