SEN. KOLKHORST APPOINTED TO STATE AFFAIRS COMMITTEE

State Senator Lois Kolkhorst is one of two new appointments to the Senate Committee on State Affairs.

State Senator Lois Kolkhorst (R-Brenham) discusses the work done by legislators during their time in Austin at a Legislative Wrap-Up Forum December 7th at Blinn College in Brenham.

On Tuesday, Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick announced that Kolkhorst and Senator Paul Bettencourt of Houston would join the committee.

The two Republicans replace departing Senators Jane Nelson (R-Flower Mound), who announced her retirement, and Beverly Powell (D-Burleson), who suspended her re-election campaign.  The changes are effective immediately.

Patrick said the committee is charged with “studying key issues this interim”, and the two appointments come so that its work “can continue uninterrupted ahead of the 88th Legislative Session.”

With this appointment, Kolkhorst now chairs or serves on 13 standing and select committees in the Texas Senate.

Kolkhorst said she is “deeply honored” to be asked to join the committee.  She said many of the state’s most important issues are debated in this committee, and that she appreciates Patrick’s faith in her to “serve in this role and represent the values Texans expect and the trust they deserve.”

  1. I recently had the pleasure of attending a function where she was one of the speakers. She is a great speaker and motivates the crowd much like a female Jim Jordan very lucky to have her as a Senator of this area. So if you have a chance to hear her speak please do yourself a favor and attend you will no disappointed.
