CUBETTE SOFTBALL SEASON ENDS WITH 5-3 LOSS TO KINGWOOD PARK
KINGWOOD PARK 5 BRENHAM CUBETTES 3
The Brenham Cubette Softball Team came to Jordan this (Saturday) afternoon with their backs against the wall. However, after a back and forth game, it was the Kingwood Park Lady Panthers that came away with the 5-3 victory to sweep the series 2-0.
After both Brenham's Della Jasinski and Kingwood Park's Erika Savage posted scoreless frames in the first two innings, the Panthers finally broke through in the top of the third. After Peyton Coty and Elizabeth Quinn reached on infield hits, Courtney Petrasino came through with a two-run single to put Kingwood Park up 2-0.
It didn't take the Cubettes long to respond. Halle Scheel singled to start off the bottom of the third inning. She then rode home on a two run homer by Cortney Ragnes. Two batters later, Annie Beckendorf followed with a solo home run to put Brenham up 3-2.
In the top of the fifth inning, the Panthers retook the lead. Katherine Geiser singled, and Petrasino walked. Taysia Constantino followed with an RBI double that scored Geiser to tie the game 3-3. Abbey Papadimitriou then reached on a single that allowed Petrasino to score the go-ahead run, which put Kingwood Park up 4-3.
Kingwood Park would tack on one more insurance run in the top of the seventh inning. On a bunt by Quinn, Jasinski fielded the ball, but then overthrew first base, and the ball when down into the right field corner. Quinn circled the bases and scored to make it 5-3 Panthers.
The Cubettes went three up and three down in the bottom of the seventh, and their season came to an end.
Brenham finishes with an overall record of 26-10-2. It was the final game in a Cubette uniform for Kenley Mikolajchak, Cortney Ragnes, and Grace Ramsey, who are all seniors this year.
After the game, Head Coach Katie Roberts thanked the three seniors, and wished them all well in their future plans. She also thanked the parents, siblings, grandparents, fans, and the community for supporting to the team and coming to the games all season long.
