Voting continues in a heated runoff election to name the next House District 12 representative.

KWHI is speaking with both candidates in the Republican primary runoff election on Tuesday, ending with incumbent Kyle Kacal.  Kacal, who owns a large-scale cattle business on his ranch outside of College Station, is seeking a sixth term in office and faces challenger Ben Bius after no candidate secured 50 percent of the vote in the March 1st primary.  Tuesday’s winner will not have a Democratic opponent in November.

Kacal says improving broadband internet access and upgrading roadways are critical infrastructure needs to address as the region prepares for “extreme growth.”

Education is also a key topic for Kacal, who wants to make sure institutions like Blinn College, Texas A&M University and Sam Houston State University get the funding they need to continue providing opportunities for students to receive higher education.

Kacal says he is not in favor of a school voucher system at this time, citing concerns about its impact to both public and private education.

Kacal says his “conservative, rural values” are “very evident.”

Early voting continues through tomorrow (Friday) at the Washington County Courthouse Annex.  On Tuesday, polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Washington County Event Center for Precinct 1 voters, the Brenham VFW Hall for Precinct 2, the Brenham American Legion Hall for Precinct 3 and the Blinn College Student Center for Precinct 4.
