HISTORIC PRESERVATION BOARD APPROVES APPLICATION FOR ALTERATIONS AT COCKTAIL BAR
The Brenham Historic Preservation Board approved a Certificate of Appropriateness (CoA) application for work being done at a wine and martini bar in downtown Brenham at its meeting Friday.
The board unanimously approved an application from Randy and Suzanne Bayer, who are preparing to open Main Street Uncorked at 201 West Main Street. The two received approval for a previous CoA application at the board's November 29th meeting, but changes to the work initially approved at that meeting required further review.
The new CoA application brought before the board on Friday showed that the lattice work originally shown in November to be added to the patio’s planter boxes is now encapsulating and attached to the structural columns of the patio, in order to provide a more secure barrier. There is also a center gate to be locked after hours that matches the city fence at Alamo Alley.
The board approved the application based on Section 13-8 (b) (9) of the city's Historic Preservation Ordinance, which states that contemporary design for alterations and additions to existing properties should not be discouraged when they do not destroy significant historical, architectural or cultural material, and are compatible with the surrounding property, neighborhood and environment.
