BLINN COLLEGE ESPORTS HOLDING OPEN TRYOUTS
The Blinn College esports program will hold open tryouts for the fall 2022 semester July 8-11.
Tryouts are open to all full-time Blinn students enrolled in 12 or more credit hours and in good academic standing.
Tryouts will be held through the esports program's official Discord server. Please contact Blinn esports head coach Aaron Kapiko or assistant coach Kyle Murto via email at aaron.kapiko@blinn.edu or kyle.murto@blinn.edu. The coaches also ask prospective players to join the Blinn esports Discord at https://discord.gg/GbvCCT8fkd for up-to-date news and information relating to tryouts. Tryouts are for the League of Legends, Valorant, Rocket League, Overwatch, and Super Smash Bros. teams. Blinn also plans to fill rosters for Apex Legends and Call of Duty club teams this fall. Club players will have access to Blinn's esports arena but will not be eligible for scholarships.
Blinn esports is coming off an historic spring season in which both its Valorant and Overwatch teams qualified for the NJCAA Esports playoffs. Blinn's Valorant squad finished its regular season with an 8-0 record. The Buccaneers' Overwatch team finished 9-2 overall and earned a second-place finish in the NJCAA Esports Overwatch National Championship match. The Overwatch team also was selected by the NJCAA as its junior college Overwatch representative for the 2022 Collegiate Esports Commissioner's Cup (CECC) at the Gateway Center Arena in Atlanta, Ga. Blinn earned one victory at the CECC to cap its successful season.
