One person was taken to the hospital after an explosion and fire this (Thursday) morning at a church in Hostyn.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office said it was notified around 6:30 a.m. of an explosion at the Queen of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, south of La Grange.

An elderly woman suffered burns and was immediately transported by Fayette County EMS to Dell Seton Hospital in Austin.

Emergency responders included the sheriff’s office and EMS, along with the La Grange, Schulenburg, Muldoon and Fayetteville Fire Departments.

According to the sheriff’s office, information gathered by deputies and firefighters indicates the explosion was caused by a gas leak.  Several agencies have been contacted to assist with the investigation to rule out any possibility of criminal activity.

  1. Very sad. It was my family’s home parish for many years. Very old parish that formed in the early 1860’s. Pray for the injured and the parishioners past and present for the great loss.
