Jeff Eckhardt (right) is sworn in on Tuesday by Burton Mayor Pro-Tem Nathan Kalkhake to serve on the Burton City Council.

A former member of the Burton City Council is now serving again after being sworn in Tuesday night.

Jeff Eckhardt received the oath of office for Position 3 after the council approved his appointment.  Eckhardt was first elected to the council in May 2016 and served for four years.

Eckhardt chose in 2020 to not run for another term, and his seat was filled by Jason Schoenvogel, who also did not seek re-election at the end of his term on May 7th.

Also on Tuesday, the council approved renewal of a contract with Jason Jaster for yard maintenance on city properties, including city hall, the city park and the water tower.

Councilmembers also approved several items pertaining to the city’s bank accounts.  They approved a transfer by check of all Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (LEOSE) training money in the education fund to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and closing the education fund bank account.

They also agreed to transfer the remaining fund balance in the bank accounts for the municipal court and police and road repair funds to the general fund and close the old accounts.  In addition, they voted in favor of transferring the balance in the technology and security funds to the savings account and closing those accounts.

The council also:

  • Approved an ordinance correcting a previous ordinance which authorized and directed the mayor to abandon and convey a portion of Pecan Street adjacent to property owned by Dennis Gilpatrick.
  • Accepted the audits of the seizure funds as required by the Code of Criminal Procedure for Fiscal Years 2020-21 and 2021-22.
