  1. Will they be discussing how they took our Juneteenth holiday away from the employees at the last minute? Employees receive a yearly compensation letter in the fall explaining how much we really make with the insurance payments, holidays, benefits, etc. (this is to make them feel better about paying such low wages). The Juneteenth holiday was listed for us as one of our holidays, however on Wednesday evening at 7:45 pm, we were notified that we would only be receiving Friday afternoon off. The federal holiday is observed on Monday, June 20th but even though we are a state agency with state offices closed, they took our previously given (in writing) day away. Just wondering if we will be compensated for those extra 4 hours.

    1. I’m glad that a Blinn employee has spoken out and made this egregious infraction known to the public. Many things that go on at Blinn are unknown to the residents of Washington County. The fact that the current and recently past administrations are secretive, distant, and (apparently) autonomous is in stark contrast to the former presidents such as Spencer, Atkinson, Schwartz, and Voelter. While the faculty and employees of Blinn cannot determine who is hired as the executive head, the board does. Over the last 20 years or so, the board has failed in that responsibility. I think I’m correct and when I say that every former president of the college lived in Brenham or Washington County. The ones mentioned lived on campus (or not far from it), and were members of civic organizations, local churches, and other groups and were seen as the “face of Blinn College” to members of the public. It’s a shame that the legislature forces the residents of Washington County to pay for the running of the out-of-county campuses, especially when the one in Bryan is that much larger.
