GAS PRICES DROP OVER PAST WEEK HEADING INTO FOURTH OF JULY WEEKEND

Gas prices have declined over this past week ahead of Independence Day.

According to the AAA Texas Gas Watch, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel in the state is $4.46.  That is 12 cents cheaper than the price per gallon last week.  However, it is still $1.67 more expensive than this time a year ago.

In Brenham, the average price of gas is $4.57, with a low of $4.37 and a high of $4.90.

Looking at the metropolitan areas in Texas, drivers in El Paso are paying the most on average at $4.62, while drivers in Laredo are paying the least at $4.10.

Nationwide, the average price for a gallon of unleaded fuel is $4.84, 8 cents less than the price last week, but $1.72 more than last year.

AAA Texas predicts 3.5 million Texans will travel this Independence Day weekend.  That number includes 3.1 million Texans traveling by car, which would be the most on record driving for the holiday.
