IMMANUEL LUTHERAN CHURCH IN GIDDINGS UNDERGOING EXPANSION

The Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings is making preparations for their upcoming $3.2 million expansion and remodeling project.

One of the bigger changes will be the expansion of the Narthex.  Once finished, the area will be over 6,000 square feet. It will be used for overflow crowds when then church is full, and they are also planning for it to be used for meetings and other events.

They are also planning on increasing the size of their cry room and putting restroom facilities inside of it.  The church will also be enlarging and remodeling the existing restroom facilities.

The second phase will involve moving the Early Childhood Center which is catacorner from the school to the church property. It will be a 13,000 square foot, two-story building on the south side of the church.

Pastor Robert Tiner said the biggest reason for the move is because the children are having to cross the street to get to the church, which is a safety factor.

The City of Giddings also gave them approval to move the curbing so that the bell tower and a covered drop-off area can be moved near to Grimes Street.

They are also in the process of repairing the bell tower and removing the stain glass windows. Both of which were causing safety concerns.

The old ball field next to the church has also been paved over in order to make more room for parking.
