The editor and publisher of the Brenham Banner-Press is no longer with the paper.

In a post this (Friday) morning on Facebook, Derek Hall said his time at the newspaper “has sadly come to an end after 22-plus total years.”

Hall, a graduate of Brenham High School, started at the Banner-Press in February 2000 as a photographer.  He moved to news editor in June 2007 and became the digital marketing director in January 2019.  That August, he was named editor and publisher.

Hall said in his post that he looks forward to the new endeavors that come his way and spending more time with family.

Hall told KWHI he had no comment on the situation.

The newspaper has not yet formally announced who will serve as its next editor and publisher.

  1. Well, while I wish no ill will towards Mr. Hall; I will say this time period marks the first time in over 40 years that we have not bought nor subscribed to the local paper. The paper used to come out on Wednesday and cost 15 cents and sadly, with the paper being published only 3/4 times weekly, it has not improved much. I will watch for improvement going forward.
